This marks one of the lowest levels of initial claims since the late 1960s. Prior to this year, weekly initial claims have only reached such a low four times since 1969, with the year-to-date average falling to 210,216. Economists had predicted claims to reach 207,000. Meanwhile, the four-week average, which provides a more stable view of labor market trends, decreased to 203,250.
