A 30-year-old Navy destroyer drifted without power for four days in one of the world's most contested waterways, and the Pentagon said nothing about it until weeks later. The USS Benfold, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, suffered a complete generator failure on July 24 while sailing with the George Washington carrier strike group in the South China Sea. The roughly 300 sailors aboard spent the next four days without potable water, hot food, functioning toilets, or air conditioning aboard the nearly 10,000-ton warship, ABC News reported .
