The Democrat-controlled legislature passed the measure on Tuesday, but Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat running for Senate, has yet to say whether she will sign it.
The bill would block new data centers that draw more than 20 megawatts of power until the fall of 2027. It also calls to study their impact on the electrical grid.
Data centers are growing by the thousands in the United States as part of President Trump’s push for more artificial intelligence. Two-thirds of planned centers are expected to be built in rural areas. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller joins “The Hill” to discuss.
