One and three quarter miles. That is how far an off-duty firefighter ran on September 11 to get to the towers. Stephen Siller had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when the first plane hit. He drove back for his gear, found the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel closed, strapped 60 pounds to his back, and ran through it. He was last seen at West and Liberty Streets, at the base of the South Tower. Twelve members of Squad 1 died that day. His remains were never found. Stephen Siller is an American hero.

NEWSMAX Crime Correspondent Jason Mattera sits down with FDNY firefighter and pastor John Picarello, who survived the collapse of both World Trade Center towers without a scratch on 9/11. Picarello recounts racing to Ground Zero with Engine Company 278, narrowly escaping the South Tower collapse from inside the Marriott Hotel and hearing an inner voice warning him to run moments before the North Tower fell. He reflects on losing 343 fellow FDNY firefighters, the divine providence he believes saved his life and how surviving 9/11 inspired a lifelong mission to share hope, courage and faith across the nation.
