Recess, a bar in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood, hosted the event on Sunday, drawing a crowd large enough to set what organizers called a Guinness World Record for simultaneous shots of the notoriously bitter wormwood liqueur. The official count, per the bar, landed at 1,969 participants, each one raising and downing a shot of Malört at the same time. For anyone outside the Midwest, Jeppson's Malört is a Chicago institution of the punishing variety.
