NEWSNATIONNOW (CHRISTOPHER RUGABER, Associated Press) - Inflation cooled last month as gas prices fell, though costs remain elevated

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. inflation slowed last month and a measure of underlying price pressures also cooled, suggesting higher oil and gas prices from the Iran war are only having a limited impact on broader costs in the economy. Consumer prices rose 3.4% in July from a year ago, down slightly from 3.5% in June, [...]

THEAMERICANCONSERVATIVE (David Brady) - Producer Price Inflation Slowed in June as Hormuz Reopened

State of the Union: Energy prices fell over 6 percent as the Strait reopened in mid-June. The post Producer Price Inflation Slowed in June as Hormuz Reopened appeared first on The American Conservative .

The Producer Price Index (PPI), per Wednesday’s Bureau of Labor Statistics report , slowed in June to 5.5 percent year over year and down from May’s four-year high of 6.2 percent. The decline in producer price inflation came as the Straits of Hormuz reopened in mid-June, allowing energy prices to come down from the Iran war’s highs.  Core PPI, excluding food and energy as voliatile items, remained unchanged from May at 5.1 percent growth year-over-year.  Prices for final demand energy declined 6.4 percent in June, following a 28.1 percent increase in energy prices since Iran closed the Straits of Hormuz at the beginning of the Iran war. The June 17 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran allowed the…Open

AXIOS (Neil Irwin) - PPI data lowers market odds of interest rate increases this year

Federal Reserve chairman Kevin Warsh is testifying on Capitol Hill for the second day Wednesday, this time before the Senate Banking Committee. - The combination of a few comments he made in Tuesday's hearing before the House and good June inflation data now in hand suggests a rate increase is unlikely at the Fed's meeting in two weeks, while its policy stance the remainder of the year is quite uncertain. Driving the news: The Labor Department on Wednesday morning released a favorable Producer Price Index reading, showing the overall index fell 0.3% in June, while a core index excluding food, energy and trade services was up a modest 0.1%. - It came on the heels of Tuesday's similarly disinflationary Consumer Price Index report . State…

THEAMERICANCONSERVATIVE (Joseph Addington) - Wholesale Inflation Reaches Highest Level Since 2022

State of the Union: The rise in costs was driven by the Iran War’s energy shock. The post Wholesale Inflation Reaches Highest Level Since 2022 appeared first on The American Conservative .

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand—which measures prices from the sellers’ perspective—for the previous 12 months hit its highest level in more than three years, according to a report published Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. PPI in May increased 1.1 percent, for an annual increase of 6.5 percent, the largest 12-month increase since November 2022. May’s PPI increases significantly topped economists’ expectations . Analysts polled by Reuters forecasted an increase of just 0.7 percent. The surge in prices was driven by increased energy costs, which have risen sharply due to the ongoing war in Iran. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has reduced available energy supplies, creating significant shortages.…Open

AXIOS (Neil Irwin) - The U.S. inflation problem is getting worse

Data: Bureau of Labor Statistics; Chart: Neil Irwin/Axios America's inflation problem is getting worse, not better, as 2026 progresses. New wholesale price data — on the heels of Tuesday's consumer price report — confirm it. Why it matters: The evidence of continued price pressures stretches far beyond the energy price spike that occurred following the Iran war, and suggests ongoing pressures across a range of goods and services. - It is getting harder and harder to chalk up the inflationary impulse evident in a wide range of data solely to the one-time effects of tariffs and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. - That makes the chance of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut at any point this year increasingly remote, barring a…

THEAMERICANCONSERVATIVE (David Brady) - Producer Price Index Rises to Highest Since December 2022

State of the Union: This reading is the highest month-over-month producer inflation since March 2022. The post Producer Price Index Rises to Highest Since December 2022 appeared first on The American Conservative .

The Producer Price Index (PPI) report published Wednesday reported 6.0 percent producer inflation year-over-year in April. This is the highest since December 2022 under the Biden Administration. The month-over-month reading also increased to 1.4 percent, a similar high to that of March 2022. The Bureau of Labor Statistics report said that the “40 percent of the April advance in prices for final demand goods can be attributed to a 15.6-percent increase in the index for gasoline,” noting that fuels and industrial chemicals also rose significantly.  Producer inflation runs ahead of increased consumer prices, as higher costs in production costs are often imparted to consumers.   Energy prices since Tehran’s closing of the Strait…Open
