Attorney General Todd Blanche will give remarks during a memorial event at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday, marking 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The ceremony comes as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed and accused “mastermind” of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, was ordered to stand trial in 2028. Mohammed, alongside two others, is being prosecuted for the plot that led to nearly 3,000 deaths in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The Department of Homeland Security, a merger of different federal agencies previously under DOJ, was born out of the attacks. The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EDT.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is calling on current Mayor Zohran Mamdani to stay away from the 25th anniversary ceremonies honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks, a demand that puts the city's first Muslim mayor at the center of a growing fight over who speaks for Ground Zero. Giuliani made the remarks during a Friday appearance on the Newsmax program "Finnerty," where he argued that Mamdani's presence at the ceremonies would be an affront to the families who lost husbands, wives, and children in the 2001 attacks. If Zohran Mamdani wishes to honor September 11, he should begin by acknowledging the profound pain his own conduct has caused. The 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks is not a political rally, a campaign opportunity, or a stage upon which ambitious public officials can rehabilitate their reputations. It is a sacred day of remembrance dedicated to the nearly 3,000 innocent Americans murdered by Islamic terrorists, the first responders who ran toward the flames while others fled, the military men and women who answered the nation’s call in the wars that followed, and the families whose lives were forever shattered. It belongs to them. It does not belong to politicians whose public record demonstrates repeated sympathy…Open
