Five adults drowned one after another in the Scioto River in Powell, Ohio, after jumping in to save a struggling swimmer, leaving their young children stranded on the bank, screaming for help no one could give in time. The chain of deaths began around 9 p.m. on a Sunday evening when one member of a group of friends waded into the river and started fighting the current. Two others rushed in to help. When they, too, went under, the final two adults entered the water. None of the five made it back to shore. On the nearby bank, children who had come with the group watched it all happen. Tenisha Warner, widow of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, has filed a legal petition against the late star's mother over an estate plan drafted decades before the couple ever met, a move she says was forced by a looming statute of limitations and a year of failed private negotiations. The dispute centers on the 1996 Warner Family Trust, which Malcolm-Jamal Warner created when he was 26 years old, unmarried, and had no children. Under that trust, 70 percent of the actor's assets go to his mother, Pamela Warner, who serves as trustee.
