It was December 2025, and a meeting had just been held in Kathmandu between the city’s rapper-turned-mayor, Balen Shah, and the head of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane. A 14-year-old girl and her mother are among at least 87 Americans unaccounted for after a catastrophic glacier collapse sent floodwaters tearing through the Nepal-China border region, and their family has heard nothing since Wednesday morning.
