The aircraft carrier, carrying around 5,000 sailors and Marines, was deployed in the Pacific and South China Sea last November but has been supporting U.S. military operations more recently in the Middle East.
The guided-missile destroyer USS Thomas Hudner returned to Naval Station Mayport, Fla., concluding an almost nine-month deployment across multiple geographic theaters, including the U.S. 4th, 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operations.
The mission would require a squadron of ships, aircraft, drones and thousands of personnel in what could be a long-term peacekeeping operation.
The Navy plans to procure 18 to 35 of the new Medium Landing Ships and homeport up to nine in Pearl Harbor when it begins taking delivery in 2029.
This year’s Rim of the Pacific maritime exercise will include more than two dozen experiments with unmanned systems and the sinking of two derelict ships.
The Boxer arrived Sunday at Pearl Harbor, accompanied by the amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland and the dock landing ship USS Comstock.
