More than 45 large wildfires are burning across the Pacific Northwest, with the season's worst months still ahead, as the nation's biggest blaze tears through Oregon and Idaho, forcing evacuations and straining every firefighting resource in the country. The Big Grass Fire, which ignited July 23 in southwestern Oregon, crossed the state line into Idaho and consumed 301,000 acres in less than a week, with only 15 percent of the blaze contained as of midweek.
