The Trump administration has paused construction in Big Bend after massive outcry over the plans to build border security infrastructure inside the national park. Laiken Jordahl, National Public Lands Advocate at the Center for Biological Diversity, says that the project, as it stands, “would devastate this national park and change it irreparably forever.” Reporter Gaby Del Valle says that it’s part of “this massive militarization and surveillance of the border that didn’t really start with Trump, but began decades ago.”
