Mike Rogers responded on X, stating that El-Sayed had "six months to apologize for his incredibly horrific remarks regarding the Temple Israel attack" and accused him of "trying to con Michiganders" into believing his beliefs had changed. Rogers has also referred to Hasan Piker as El-Sayed's "running mate."

Hasan Piker sparked outrage by stating that American Jews who align closely with Israel risk becoming targets of violence. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries described Piker's remarks as "dangerous, malicious and antisemitic."

El-Sayed has refused to engage with questions about Piker, characterizing them as a "game of 'gotcha'" and stating he is "not interested in a conversation about a social media person in California." He has attempted to shift the focus of the race toward issues like health care and affordability.

After initially condemning the attack, El-Sayed released a video calling the event "an evil act of displaced rage" and stating "hurt people hurt people." He also referred to the perpetrator and suggested people "imagine if his family had never died," adding that "violence is a cycle."

El-Sayed told the Jewish caucus on a Saturday that he regretted his comments, stating, "I made a mistake" and that he should have simply issued a statement condemning the attack without offering context. He explained that while he was trying to offer context for why the attack happened, it "wasn't the time for context" and noted that "you don't ever want to trample somebody's pain."
